Horizon Flame by Keith O'Brien

Keith O'Brien

Abstract landscapes · Carrigaline, Co. Cork

Keith O'Brien is an abstract landscape painter based in Carrigaline, Co. Cork. Born in London and raised in Cork from the age of two, he has loved art since childhood and won prizes for it in primary school. In his twenties he painted street art for nightclubs and personal projects, before returning to painting in earnest in recent years.

Working in mixed media, Keith takes his inspiration from the coastlines of Cork and Kerry: light on water, shifting weather and colour pushed to its limits. You can see it in pieces such as Horizon Flame, Magma Tide and The Heath at Dusk. He is an early riser who is often in the studio by 6.30am, and he exhibited at Art Source Cork in Cork City Hall in 2023.

St Finbars by Tom Herdman

Tom Herdman

Cork city and landscapes · Cork

Tom Herdman is a Cork painter working mainly in acrylic, and his home city is his favourite subject. He paints the English Market, St Patrick's Quay, Blackrock Castle, St Fin Barre's and the Northside in sun and in snow, along with landscapes further afield such as Gougane Barra and Drake's Pool in Crosshaven.

For Tom, the subject is often the light rather than the detail. His painting of the English Market, for example, is less about the people and the bustle than about the morning light falling on the market just as it wakes up. He exhibited at Art Source Cork in Cork City Hall in 2023.

The Milk Market by Una Heaton

Una Heaton

Watercolour, acrylic and portraits · Limerick

Una Heaton is a Limerick-born artist who is proud of her city. She studied at Limerick School of Art and began an art teacher's course, but couldn't afford full-time college, so she moved into advertising. There she designed company logos, signage, theatre backdrops and calligraphy. Portrait commissions and landscapes followed.

Watercolour is her favourite medium, which she calls "vibrant and quick", and she also paints large acrylic works of the Irish coast. Her portraits include Frank McCourt and Barack Obama. Una has been closely involved with the Frank McCourt Museum in Limerick and led the project for a bronze bust of McCourt outside his old school. She also donated a painting honouring front-line healthcare workers to University Hospital Limerick.

Her painting The Milk Market captures a Saturday morning under the canopy of Limerick's Milk Market. It is available as a signed limited edition print of 350.
